This festival is called DonPak. The word Don (or possibly dom) represents the sound of the big firework. Now when I say big, it's big. A whopping 280kg big with a diameter of over 90cm!!! When it exploded 650 meters in the air its diameter reached a massive 600meters!! Its BIG! and the Pak is for the sound of people eating so as far as I can work out this festival is all about fireworks and food...so I am pretty sure it's the best festival ever. I don't think I am the only person to think this either as out of a population of 180 000 people we had an attendance of aproximately 145,000!!

So it might not be clear from this photo but the windows shook more than a kilometer away when this last one went off. The reason it was so difficult to catch it properly is because it is so big they set it off from a ship out toe sea! seriously!
The Niagara falls one was also a massive highlight for me. The whole night was an absolute might bending experience. I don't think the fireworks really let up for a whole hour. In total there were over 8000 individual fireworks and 2000 were let off in the last six minutes.
Well, with any luck the next two posts that will be going up here should be a lot of fun. Next week we have our Mexican Independence day party and then the weekend after we are thinking of heading out to Shiretoko! This is a natural park that is also a UNESCO world heritage place...I'll watch out for bears :D
